A new functionality in the WeDo 2.0 Tilt sensor is “shake” mode. Tilt sensor – The Tilt Sensor reports the direction it is tilted.The motion sensor can also be used as a range detector and can detect if an object is close or far away (up to 15 cm). Motion sensor – The Motion Sensor detects objects within a range of 15 centimeters depending on the design of the object.Axles or other LEGO® system bricks and other LEGO elements can be attached to the motor. Medium Motor – The Medium Motor can be programmed to clockwise and counter-clockwise and to move at different power levels.It has a built-in RGB light surface that can show up to 10 different colors that be controlled by the software/App. It has two I/O ports to connect to external motors, sensors, or any new component belonging to the LPF 2.0 system. It is powered from a battery source, 2 AA batteries, or a rechargeable battery pack. It has built-in Bluetooth low energy to wireless connect to the control software/App. WeDo 2.0 Smarthub – The Smarthub is an electronic system based building brick that is part of the LEGO Power Functions (LPF) 2.0, a new technology platform for LEGO® Education.Building Elements – 280 LEGO system building elements.Links to download the WeDo software can be found on LEGO Education Downloads. Although it is possible to untether the WeDo by powering the motor directly, it will not follow a program. Creations need to remain tethered to the computer for power and to follow a program. The original LEGO WeDo Core Set (9580) has 158 pieces, including two sensors (tilt and motion), a motor, and a USB hub. WeDo 1.0 (9580) Original LEGO WeDo Core Set WeDo (1.0 and 2.0) can also be programmed using Scratch. Additional curriculum materials are also available from LEGO Education. The SmartHub is powered by either two AA batteries or a rechargeable battery pack (purchased separately). WeDo 2.0 features a programmable SmartHub that connects to a computer or tablet via Bluetooth Low Energy, meaning that there is no longer a need to physically tether creations to a computer (as was required with the original WeDo kit). The WeDo 2.0 Software is available for desktops and tablets and is free to download.
The LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 Core Set (45300) contains 280 pieces, including a motor, and tilt sensor, and motion sensor. WeDo 2.0 was released at the beginning of 2016. The original WeDo set was released in 2009. LEGO WeDo is a robotics kit designed for younger students.
